Lights Out Operation Custom Group's laser forming and bending machines operate throughout the night without human intervention. Blanks are stacked into a 3 metre high tower, and are individually loaded into the forming machines where they are positioned and worked to completion. Twin conveyors remove formed pieces into a neat stack, as well as off cuts and waste into waiting bins. From Design to manufacture in a single step Custom Group's automation extends all the way back to design. 3D models are fed into specialised software modules which automatically calculate optimal routing and tool paths. In addition, nesting software employed on high speed computers calculates the optimal arrangement of pieces which can be cut from a single blank, with typical material usage around 92%, representing substantial cost as well as time savings compared to traditional calculation methods.
